Why So Serious?

So this post is about the merry makers, the humorists, the crazy funny people that attract millions everyday. They are the Pied Pipers of the advertising world. They attract us and we fall for it every time. We are like fish willingly jumping into a fisherman’s net.

Great advertising comes in many forms and delivery. Traditional advertising was just a shout out for a product with an attached call to action. These early shout outs were positioned correctly to find their audience but seemed to lacked much of a story or a narrative.


Not unlike magicans , the people who have worked in media have always been one step ahead of their audiences by anticipating their needs and delivering a message that is memorable. Part of this magic was to introduced humour to lighten the mood, especially after a long day of work or wrangling children. Populations around the world would happily relax in front of the TV “tune in” to be entertained.

The Birth Of Viral.

So if you are selling a product why not entertain in the breaks of the entertainment? Any advertising spot became fair game to entertain.This is why the Super Bowl ads work so well, they are just Entertainment multiplied. This was the birth of Viral media. If it was funny and got your attention it would be talked about. Humour created chatter about the ads, this in turn extended the brand presence. Through TV the once humble ad spot became elevated to a new status.

Seriously Funny

So the next time you see a comedian on TV or a funny ad watch closely. It maybe funny but its a serious business. So let’s get down to some seriously funny monkey business. Enjoy!
