The view over Seven mile beach in the Shoalhaven near Berry.

Shoalhaven the perfect midweek escape from Sydney

A welcome Retreat

The crazy thing about being busy is you sometimes just don’t know when to stop. When do you stop taking urgent calls from clients, stop chasing emails or following up with friends and family? At a certain point it all just seems too much and unfortunately we all reach a tipping point whether we know about it or not.

This is why we all need a fast get away place. Somewhere you can go just for yourself. Bangalay Villas is just the place.

My wife and I have been here a few times before with our kids and they loved it. The bungalows are spacious, modern and stylish. The interior design blends in perfectly with the surrounds which gives a feeling of being connected to your environment. The outside private balconies are a perfect place to sit and unwind and enjoy the complimentary chilled Margarita cocktails provided by the hotel. They were so good we wanted to order more.

The air is a fresh tonic

Nestled Away

The air is a fresh tonic straight of the ocean at your doorstep. Waking up in the morning is quiet and un rushed where the rooms textured blinds hold back the early morning light. The only thing that breaks the silence is birds chirping nestled in the trees near the outside balcony and a distant pounding of the sea beyond the dunes which wakens the senses as a rush of fresh air diffuses into your lungs and brings you back to life.

Even though we would love to spend the day lazing around the apartment, our need for good coffee automates our habits and we find ourselves ready and dressed for breakfast.

The Bangalay Villas restaurant’s menu has been put together well. A fresh selection of mains and sides are all too tempting. I settle on the smoked salmon with potato Rosti and creme Fraiche and lemon and my wife has the avocado on toast with poached eggs as a side. If this wasn’t enough we were offered a mid morning snack to take with us as we were leaving. A healthy and filling start to our day.

Seven Miles of Beautiful Beach

Seven Mile beach does seem like a very well kept secret. Even though there are a many small hotels and caravan parks in the area, the beach never seems to be crowded or busy. The Norther part of the beach near Gerroa is crowned by a deep primordial rainforest. The shoreline is pristine and you would not think you were only two hours from Sydney.

Horse Riding On the Beach

The beach is perfect for finding a quite spot to relax and read a book and while away your hours or to go for a walk or a jog. If you are adventurous and want to see the beach from a different perspective you should book yourself in for a session with the local beach horse riding school. The Regal Horse riding will take you along the fringe of Seven Mile beach National Park on to the beach and back.I would love to try this as it looks amazing, however it does look like its for experience riders.

Short drives

Two Figs Vineyard

Bangalay Villas sits about halfway between Sydney and Canberra. It is approximately 150 Kilometers from the Sydney CBD and 210 kilometers to Canberra, so if you are heading to Canberra it is the perfect stop over to refresh and recharge. Bangalay Villas is only a short drive from several vineyards and the charming the historic town of Berry. One of our favourite local vineyards is the Two Figs vineyard. It is only a short hop from the villas and has private wine tastings. There is a great selection of fine wines and enough variety for every pallet. My favourites are the Sienna Red and their Sticky Fig desert wine. If you like wine you will find it difficult to leave without a few bottles for later. The views from the vineyard over the Shoalhaven river are worth the trip alone.

Refreshingly Stylish.

This town is a quiet achiever. The town is renowned for its stylish homeware boutique shops, its famous high street doughnut van, gourmet restaurants and its welcoming pubs. Even though the town can get busy it still hasn’t lost its warmth and charm and still feel like a country town nestled at the foot of the near by rolling hills. It is quietly stylish. Like many Australian country towns there is no big fanfare, they go about their business and no one is heard shouting over anyone else. However this hasn’t stopped a push for plush in this little haven. The high street has become a focus for home design and interior products. Each store has their own style and stock a variety of interesting products from hip style fashions to interesting furniture and decorative pieces that you will not find in any other stores this is what makes this town so unique and why no one store is the same.

we have to come back

There is always something else to see, taste and experience on the South Coast. We are still yet to fully explore the area and every time we visit it has always been different and interesting.Maybe next time we may try an air bnb or another hotel in the area. There are lots of great day trips to be had into the valleys and to discover the farm produce and other historic towns in the nearby area. We hop you enjoyed our blog and we hope to bring you many more in the future. Please subscribe to our mailing list so you can receive our latest updates.
